TheraLog is a product of Billingmed — a South African practice management and medical billing services company. We have spent over a decade working in and building software for the healthcare billing space, and along the way we have run a medical billing bureau serving practices across the country.
That experience gave us an unusually clear view of the operational challenges facing South African practitioners — particularly those in solo and small private practices. The paperwork burden, the compliance pressure, the after-hours note writing. We saw it across hundreds of practices, in every specialty.
Mental healthcare practitioners have always been underserved by software. The tools that exist are either generic (Google Docs, Dropbox), expensive enterprise systems built for large hospital groups, or overseas products that don't account for South African compliance requirements like POPIA or HPCSA record-keeping standards.
There has always been a clear need for something purpose-built — affordable, secure, and designed specifically for the way a solo mental health practitioner actually works. That's what TheraLog is.
We built it with end-to-end encryption, offline-first architecture, and POPIA compliance baked in from day one — not bolted on afterwards. The AI note writing was added because we heard the same thing from practitioners over and over: the paperwork doesn't stop when the session ends.
TheraLog is not a side project. It is built and maintained by a team with deep roots in South African healthcare administration.
